Learning Path

Due to the writing intensive nature and high degree of personal feedback provided, this program capacity is limited.

In this session, participants learn about why diversity statements are becoming an important determinant in hiring, the qualities of an effective diversity statement for a range of life histories and experiences, as well as best practices and common pitfalls. Participants have an opportunity to discuss their experiences and explore how to highlight them in a diversity statement.

In this session, participants learn about the qualities of an effective cover letter, how to tailor their letter for different organizations and sectors, and professionalism best practices. Participants are asked to bring a job description of interest to the session which they will use to identify focal points to incorporate in their cover letter.

For this session, participants are asked to draft a resume based on a job advertisement before the start of the session. The session begins with a brief lecture on how a resume differs from a Curriculum vitae, methods for choosing relevant experience with limited space, and how to frame experiences for non-academic roles. In the second half of the workshop, participants receive feedback on their resumes based on the accompanying job advertisements.

The session begins with a brief lecture on best practices and ways participants can format their CV to stand out. In the second half of the workshop, participants receive feedback on their own CVs based on their career goals.
